Concept of the Logo: The logo is symbolic of various facets of the environment. The circular Form conveys its universal quality. The numerous vertical lines emphasize the multi-dimensional character of the problems of environmental planning and coordination.The four horizontal strata are indicative of the main resource groups: terrestrial, aquatic, biotic and solar. The graded vertical ascending strips suggest the yearning of man for a better life in a cleaner environment.

Mandates (Aims & Objectives of EPCO)

To assist and advise the State Government on environmental policy and planning through 

  • The preparation of a comprehensive data-based report on the status of the State's environment, with regular updating 

  • The appraisal of particular development projects and industrial projects 

  • The study of particular environment problems and the formulation of feasible solutions 

  • The facilitation of expert external inputs, including consultation services, in addition to its own capacities 

  • Undertaking environmental research and promote it through academic institutions 

  • Undertaking environment sensitive planning by providing comprehensive design services in architecture, urban and landscape design and environmental graphics.

  • Coordinating environment related activities and policies of the different agencies of government and its different levies; to also co-ordinate activities of NGOs and other groups among themselves and public agencies.

To organize training programmes for manpower development in the field of environment sciences, technologies and management.

To develop a cadre of professionals and experts in the field of environment and maintain information on the availability of diverse expertise in the field.

To formulate supervise and evaluate environment related projects in the State and mobilize financial resources for them.

To provide environmental awareness and education by:

  • Organizing lectures, debates, conferences and seminars on topical issues 

  • Participatory programmes in educational institutions

  • Assisting and interacting with NGOs

  • Dissemination of environmental information through the media orienting policy makers and opinion leaders towards environmental issues. 

To take up consultancy projects for environmental studies and designs.
