Concept of the Logo: The logo is symbolic of various facets of the environment. The circular Form conveys its universal quality. The numerous vertical lines emphasize the multi-dimensional character of the problems of environmental planning and coordination. The four horizontal strata are indicative of the main resource groups: terrestrial, aquatic, biotic and solar. The graded vertical ascending strips suggest the yearning of man for a better life in a cleaner environment.

Desilting and Dredging of Lakes

The prime objective of desilting and dredging is to remove volume of silt and sediments that have accumulated in the lakes over a long period of time. This silt and sediments cause not only the reduction in the storage capacity of the lake, but also accumulation of the nutrients that promote pollution of lake water and luxurious growth of aquatic weeds, algae and bio-organisms. At those places where nallahs and rivulets meet the lakes and silt has accumulated generally at the peripheral area causing the lakes to become shallow and also resulted in growth of weeds. With accumulation of silt, land formation starts into the lake. So animal and human activities also started into that area. To avoid this desilting and dredging work has given importance. This is the first time dredging in such a large inland water-body is being done. De-silting & dredging are proposed to be carried out in those areas of Upper lake to prevent land formation and choking of inlet channels. About 3.2 million cubic meter silt are estimated to remove from Bairagarh Kalan, Halalpur, Kohukhedi, Lakhapur and Bishenkhedi of Upper lake. This sub project is expected to complete by December 2001. Desilting & Dredging work has been awarded to M/s Backbone Co. Ltd. in 3 packages as per detailed project report. Silt removed during desilting is about 8.50 lacs cum in zone A and 3.4 lacs cum in Zone B under package I, 10.45 lac cum. in zone C under package II and 2.5 lacs cum. in zone E & 1.57 lacs cum. in Zone F under package III. The balance work of removing silt of 1.10 lacs cum in zone E is in progress.
