Concept of the Logo: The logo is symbolic of various facets of the environment. The circular Form conveys its universal quality. The numerous vertical lines emphasize the multi-dimensional character of the problems of environmental planning and coordination. The four horizontal strata are indicative of the main resource groups: terrestrial, aquatic, biotic and solar. The graded vertical ascending strips suggest the yearning of man for a better life in a cleaner environment.

Installation of Floating Fountains

Pollution in the lakes due to high BOD/COD in the water, have resulted in decrease in oxygen level in water, particularly at deeper depths.

The objective of installation of floating fountain is to oxygenate the lake water through aeration. The proper oxygen level in water is essential for a desirable biotic life in the lake. In Phase I 3 units (one each of Ozoniser, Floating Fountain and Ozoniser-cum-Floating Fountain) have been installed in Lower lake near Neelam Park, Khatlapura and Bhoipura. On the assessment of their performance evaluation 12 Floating Fountains are being installed in Lower and Upper Lakes in Second Phase. The proposed sites for installing Floating Fountains are near Ginnori, MVM and MLB Hostel in Lower Lake and near Vardhman, Yatch Club near pump house, Takia Island, Prempura, Fatehgarh, Shaeed Nagar, Koh-e-Fiza, Khanugoan and Borvan in Upper lake. These floating units can be moved in the radius of 500 m to cover the maximum area of the lake. The work of Phase II is likely to be completed by 31st March 2002.
