Concept of the Logo: The logo is symbolic of various facets of the environment. The circular Form conveys its universal quality. The numerous vertical lines emphasize the multi-dimensional character of the problems of environmental planning and coordination. The four horizontal strata are indicative of the main resource groups: terrestrial, aquatic, biotic and solar. Lake Conservation Authority

During the project implementation, it was observed that with the multiplicity of agencies involved in the development, regulation, upkeep and maintenance of the Lakes and their catchment areas, and the issues thereof, the efforts for the conservation and management of these lakes gets diluted. This is primarily because, for the agencies involved, the status and health of the Lakes is not a high priority item. In order to elicit maximum impact of the massive investments being made, it is imperative that a mechanism be in place before the project implementation is completed.

In order to impart a holistic, perspective and sustainable view to the conservation and management of the Upper and Lower Lakes of Bhopal, and for executing the remaining activities under the Lakes Bhopal Conservation and Management Project and the maintenance activities thereafter, a LAKE CONSERVATION AUTHORITY has been setup.

The Objectives of the Authority shall be

To conserve and manage the Upper and Lower Lakes of Bhopal, which would include the Lake water spread, the lake fringes and the lake catchments, in a sustainable manner.

To regulate the activities detrimental to the conservation of the lakes in areas specified above.

To monitor regularly the ecological and environmental health and status of the lakes and to conduct studies, research regarding the ecology and environment of the lakes as well as develop inventories of flora and fauna and the bio-diversity therein.

To plan judiciously, with a focussed perspective view for the sustainable management of the Lakes.
To generate awareness in the beneficiaries of the Lakes regarding the conservation of the Lakes.
To collaborate and network with organisations, institutions and agencies involved in the conservation and management of Wetlands.

Using the experience of these Lakes for conservation and management, prepare plans, projects, action plans for other lakes and water-bodies in the State.
