Concept of the Logo: The logo is symbolic of various facets of the environment. The circular Form conveys its universal quality. The numerous vertical lines emphasize the multi-dimensional character of the problems of environmental planning and coordination. The four horizontal strata are indicative of the main resource groups: terrestrial, aquatic, biotic and solar. The graded vertical ascending strips suggest the yearning of man for a better life in a cleaner environment.

Monitoring of Water Quality

The objective of sub project is to assess physico-chemical, biological and heavy metals in the water quality of upper and lower lakes, and identify the effect of pollution from different sources, its intensity and quantum into the water, assess the present status, during implementation various sub projects of works and post project execution status of the water quality to observe the changes/variations in different parameters at various stages. The existing laboratory of EPCO has been strengthen in 1998-99 to monitor about 120 parameters of water quality, impact assessment study and regular monitoring of the water quality for its various parameters under physical, chemical, bacteriological, heavy metals and other categories are being carried out regularly. There are fixed locations, 17 in Upper lake and 14 in Lower lake, to monitoring water quality at monthly intervals. Besides these, depending on interventions, water quality as well as soil parameters are being measured.

Under this sub project activities, data of water quality from 1995 has been gathered. The data generated for the subsequent period is of uniform in nature and include more parameters.

Study conducted so far revealed that in general the western part of Upper lake except near the sewage inlet points, is merotrophic, but the northern and certain pockets in southern side are entrophic in nature. The Lower lake is totally entrophic.
