The Project Outcomes

The strategy to achieve the objective is based on collaboration with line departments, working in an agency mode by emerging as an independent think tank and establishing credentials as an objective monitor of the state’s environment. In summary, the project outcomes for MP and EPCO will be

  • Better equipped to address the emerging needs of development
  • Increased self sustainability less dependence on Government funds
  • Effective main streaming environmental concerns in all the development initiatives of the Government
  • Community empowerment for sustainable development
  • Better monitoring of state environmental policy
  • Integrated strategy for environmental management
  • Resource mobilization from bilateral & multilateral donor agencies
  • Inter-organizational vibrant networking of civil society organization, scientific and regulatory agencies
  • More functional autonomy for the organizations
  • To be a conscious-keeper for all developmental plans to be environmentally sustainable.

The 5 sectors of Water, Energy, Health, Agriculture and Bio-diversity (WEHAB) and their intricate relationship with poverty and development are well understood and accepted world over and these would be the bedrock of sustainable development for items to come. Hence as a proactive step EPCO is working towards building institutional and individual capacities in these sector.

In a decentralized system of public administration environmental issues also need to be addressed at the smallest possible viable unit. Hence a paradigm shift from state level environmental status reports to district level reports is being attempted. Similarly sensitization of administration at this level, backed with relevant environmental data and key concerns would definitely help in channelizing some resources for ameliorating environmental conditions.
